Thank you everyone for joining the special edition of HTHH. We really enjoyed digging into Donald Trump’s UN address this week. And as I underscored to Elise, if you were looking for the classic presidential address to the United Nations General Assembly, that wasn't what you were going to get from this president. Donald Trump likes to talk to the American people. He's not interested in talking to the UNGA. And so he gave an address that he would give to the American people.
The usual suspects were scandalized by his reference to European countries going to hell, and a variety of other MAGA tidbits. But if you've been paying attention to what's going on in Europe, he's not making a crazy point. Between the rabid and growing antisemitism, the rabid and growing censorship, and the growing prevalence of Islamist pockets inside the EU, there's an argument to be made that there's a problem we're not paying attention to.
On the question of “Palestine,” Elise and I were in violent agreement that now is not the time. What is motivating those bending the knee to the corrupt and terror-supporting Palestinian Authority? Domestic politics, antisemitism, and a general effort to do something easy. Will any of it help actual Palestinians? Not a chance.
We also touched on the President’s weird about face on Ukraine.
And more violent agreement: This would be fantastic as long as there was some sense the President actually, you know, meant it. History suggests tomorrow might bring another policy. Sigh.
We’ve got the standard issue HTHH on Thursday at 530, and SHOWNOTES below. Subscribe, and join us. We love seeing you all. And thank you.
