“Woo Hoo to the Israelis..”

Allow me an excerpt from a recent op-ed in Haaretz by Gideon Levy:

“The school embracing the "once and for all" concept seems particularly foolish after the war in Gaza.

After all, the war there was meant to solve our problems ‘once and for all.’ Not one of them has been solved after a year of bitter combat, with tens of thousands of fatalities and total destruction. Israel will emerge from the war in Gaza in a much worse situation than it entered it.

How can one even think that a war against [Hezbollah], a much stronger enemy, in much more difficult terrain, with an exhausted army, facing global revulsion, will bring about a better result than the fiasco in Gaza?

And after Lebanon we'll tackle Iran. There too we'll have an opportunity, there too we'll solve our problems ‘once and for all.’

Viewing war as a sole and primary means of solving problems suggests a mental distortion. But in a country in which Karni Eldad, a columnist in the daily Israel Hayom, calls the dozens of people killed, the thousands of people wounded and the hundreds blinded by exploding pagers in Lebanon "an immense gift to our nation, which greatly deserves it ahead of the new year," one is not surprised by anything.”

Another good one Ms. Pletka. You did not mention Iraq. Is Iraq as dangerous as the others? Did we do a better job there than we think?
