I kept reading complaints that “Musk destroyed Twitter”, but I perceived no change. But I use it only to follow a few accounts because I want to know what they are doing.
What I am trying to do is use Bluesky for stuff related to my scholarship (law, urban planning etc) and use Twitter for general entertainment/political junkie stuff. Too early to see how it works.
I feel like I disagree because I don’t go to social media to get the news I go there to talk about hobbies, celebrities and videogames. I go to the New York Times and real clear politics to argue about politics.
It isn’t an enjoyable place to talk about hobbies when everything is confrontational. I left Twitter ten years ago when my wife got dogpiled With threats in gamergate for wanting to play a lady in Assassin’s Creed.
I feel like any place on the internet except maybe facebook is more pleasant than Twitter to talk about Sabrina Carpenter songs, sneakers and which Baldur’s gate romance was the best. It’s not exactly an echo chamber but an expectation that that this won’t become a political argument.
Thanks for the informative post, Dany. I have never ventured a visit to Facebook or X or Twitter. I am a Luddite. I did, however read Hillbilly Elegy in an attempt to understand my fellow Americans better. And, I learned a lot from White Working Class. Do election deniers and January 6th Capital visitors read books trying to understand my political positions?
Sure. People who are wrong aren’t always stupid, they’re just wrong. I read antisemitic crap all the time. I want to know what evil people think. And smart people read stupid books too. Look at Ta Nehisi Coates. People read that garbage as well.

Money quote:
"Obviously, the platform was skewed heavily to the Left, and now that it is balanced, progressives don’t like it anymore."
“Note the rank hypocrisy of these types, so many of whom own Teslas”
Strong ‘Linda is a bank teller vibes’ here

If you are asking me, then yes. (I even understand why you use loaded 'have you stopped beating your wife" terminology such as "election deniers").
I like your characterization of his phrasing. Really on target.
Which books do you recommend?
I really like Jonah Goldberg’s Liberal Fascism…
I read his Suicide of the West.
I will keep that in mind.
Depends for what?
